Mommy

It's 1998, and The Woman's days are a quiet loop of routine - vacuuming, exercising, scrubbing floors, and baking. Only in the kitchen does she find fleeting solace in the delicate art of pastry. But the joy once found in her craft has soured into something obsessive, making her desperate to prove she still has something to offer. In comes a phone call: a reunion with her former culinary school classmates hosted at her house. The woman's fragile calm begins to unravel. As the date draws near, the more her reality breaks. The kitchen fills with cakes. Her child's cries for more become unbearable. The pressure to present something and to prove she's still someone is all consuming. In a final, surreal release, she devours the cake with wild abandon. For the first time she realizes how taste her creations actually are. She smiles. The doorbell rings.
